Regional Economic Development Partnership Launches Northern West Virginia Career Web Site
WHEELING, WV -- The Regional Economic Development Partnership (RED), in conjunction with Direct Online Marketing and Verizon West Virginia, today launched a career opportunities Web site for the metro Wheeling, W. Va., area.
RED and Verizon WV have worked closely for the past few years to develop a comprehensive marketing and recruitment plan for the region. They believe that in today’s global, competitive, knowledge-based economy, successful economic expansion, retention and recruitment strategies require collaborative, agile and innovative partnerships.
One of the main purposes of www.TakeMeHomeOhioValley.com is to highlight the employment opportunities of today’s Ohio Valley (the northern counties of West Virginia and neighboring Ohio and Pennsylvania areas) and encourage former local residents to register with the career site so they can be notified if a new opportunity is coming to the area.
“We are promoting this West Virginia career Web site heavily to residents and former residents to let them know about positions available here,” said Karri Mulhern, marketing coordinator for RED. “This new career site is more than just a job board or job site. RED has been collaborating with local colleges and universities (Bethany College; Wheeling Jesuit University; West Liberty College; West Virginia Northern Community College; and West Virginia Business College) on workforce development endeavors. The local educational institutions have agreed to promote this site to their current students as well as alumni. The Web site features detailed information on the opportunities and asks users to create a login for the purposes of providing information on their education and experience levels and to search available positions.

A high level of confidentiality is built into this site. If a user does not want indentifying information such as their name or current employer’s name to be seen by anyone visiting the site, then this information can be blocked. The Web site providers also work with local Wheeling employers to list their job opportunities free of charge.
